35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35
People follow trends because they don't want to miss out on things. That's why farmers try to keep up with the latest John Deere tractor and hockey fans eagerly wait for their favorite NHL team’s games—whether in the arena or on TV.
The sad part is when this admiration turns into idolatry—when we allow others to shape our minds, including our perception of reality and understanding of truth. But a vast majority of the celebrities out there believe that God is dead and we have no use for the Bible.
Jesus proves them wrong.
In our previous blog, we learned that since God is unchanging, His promises stand—whether they speak of His blessings or judgment. Here’s another reason why the Bible remains relevant in today’s world:
The Bible speaks timeless truth.
Contrary to the claim that the Bible was only useful for the people it was written to, Scripture claims that it is unfailing and everlasting.
In today’s verse, Jesus claims that His word is as authoritative and valid as God’s word. To emphasize the sureness of His predictions, specifically in regard to the events in the last days, He says that heaven and earth will pass away but His word will never fail.
Since God is immortal, so is His word. Since God’s word is eternal, it will always be relevant. Its truth will always apply, regardless of culture, geography, and even the prevailing worldviews and ideologies.
One of the marks of the Bible’s relevance is that it communicates enduring moral principles, i.e. The Ten Commandments. The laws against murder and stealing are universally accepted as morally right and true. Moreover, it speaks of ageless themes of struggle, victories, sin, justice, forgiveness, and love. It also discusses the proper design for marriage, family, and parenting.
Therefore, wherever we live and whatever generation we are a part of, these topics will always be important. No matter what’s trending or what’s upcoming, the timeless message of the Bible will always be worth our time.
