“ROOTED IN TRUTH”

24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.”

John 15:24

One of the reasons why I am a Christian is that there is more than enough evidence that back up Jesus Christ's claims. Being a historical figure who demonstrated divine wisdom and power, gave His life for wretched sinners, and rose back to life on the third day, Jesus has been moving millions of hearts throughout the world for centuries—myself included.

The passage from which today’s verse is taken shows Jesus’ revelation to His disciples, declaring the importance of believing His message on the basis of His works. He also announces that not believing in Him is the same as not believing in the Father. His enemies’ sin was both intentional and indefensible. Despite Jesus’ perfect life and supernatural works, they refused to believe them. Thus, He now judges their blatant unbelief. Their guilt cannot be chalked up to ignorance because they both heard and saw His teaching and work.

The Bible tells us that we are responsible for the things revealed to us. Our knowledge of God, which comes from our exposure to God’s word, should result in a new life.

12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

The word of God imparts life to those who receive it in humility and faith. It accomplishes its purpose of transforming us from one degree of godliness to the next. I am convinced that the more time we spend on the Bible gives us a greater level of accountability to the amount of revelation given to us. And when our hearts are moldable enough, change is inevitable.

Jesus has made God’s Word plain to us. He provided evidence for us to believe in Him and trust in His Person and finished work. Therefore, our faith is rooted in truth. We have every piece of evidence we need to let go of our doubt and unbelief. However, if we still ignore Him despite the facts, we no longer have any excuse for our unbelief.

For this reason, I encourage you to have a humble heart and open it to reason. Believe what the Bible says about Jesus and put your trust in Him. And if you do, you will be declared “not guilty” in God’s court come Judgment Day.
