“Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.”

Psalm 16:9

Entering into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ offers a lot of benefits. He gives us peace, joy, and hope—things money can’t buy. However, Christ is not a ticket to good health and fortune. Accepting Christ doesn’t guarantee a life of prosperity and success.

In our verse of the day, David speaks of his confidence in God and the things he sees as blessings from the Lord. He gives credit to God for his victories. He also expresses his confidence in the Lord and gives us hints of future resurrection.

David is a well-known biblical figure and is admired by many for his unquestionable devotion to God. He was a man with a strong will and determination to honour the Lord in everything he did and inspired others to love God.

Not only was David commendable because of his immovable faith in God, but he was also aware of the realities of life, i.e., life after death. The reasons for his rejoicing were not limited to earthly possessions and achievements, but he is also looking forward to eternity. In his earthly life, he was filled with joy and his whole being rejoiced in hopeful anticipation of everlasting life. He was not afraid to face death knowing that one day, God will give him a body fit for eternity.

David and the people of his generation were given only a glimpse of what was to come; God gave us a full revelation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If David believed, we should all the more put our trust in the Son of God and live each day with confidence and hope, knowing that God will one day God will fulfill all of His promises.

20 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it, we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

Philippians 3:21
