In an attempt to live a comfortable life, some resort to dishonesty and deception. Instead of earning honestly, they use their craftiness to betray others' trust and get what they want. What does the Bible say about this matter?
We can observe at least four ways in which a God-fearing man responds to practical blessings. Here’s another spiritual nugget for you to ponder.
A true believer is generous, accommodating, and fair. Since he understands that all he has comes from God, he doesn’t close his hands to those who are in need. No one comes to him ever goes empty-handed. Generosity is the very reason why we work hard—not only to provide for ourselves and our families but also to help those who are in need.
28 “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”
Ephesians 4:28
Christians are expected to work hard and earn an honest living, being fair in all our dealings. So, being involved in illegal activities should never be on our agenda. As a matter of fact, it shouldn’t even cross our minds. Dishonesty and deception have no place in the Christian life.
On the other hand, God gives us the wisdom, strength, and opportunities to be productive. So, we should work hard and smart. The purpose is to not only be good providers for ourselves and our families but also to be generous to others. People who come to us asking for help should receive something to address their immediate needs. Our help may not always be enough, but at least we do something to alleviate their suffering. What makes this help even sweeter is that we worked hard for it, and didn’t cheat anyone in the process.
