10 “Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.”

1 John 5:10

Some people don’t pay much attention to the truth about Christ. To them, He doesn’t matter. But at some point, they will be surprised to know that this will be the biggest decision they will ever have to make.

Our previous blog taught us that the Father’s witness gives us great confidence in trusting Jesus.

In today’s verse, John further strengthens his argument in favor of Christ, whom he calls “the Son of God.” Jesus is God’s dearly beloved Son who came to earth in the flesh and gave up His life on the Cross. Those who believe this testimony align themselves with God who affirmed Jesus multiple times in the Gospels.

On the other hand, those who reject the full truth about Christ essentially make God a liar because they refuse to believe His testimony about the Son.

By implication, one cannot profess belief in God but deny Jesus. To deny Christ is to deny the Father (John 5:23). Anyone who rejects Christ does not do so ignorantly. Rather, it is intentional unbelief, accusing God of dishonesty.

This problem is not unique to the people of John’s time. Our generation also comes with many who claim belief in God but vehemently refuse to believe in Jesus. Whether it’s His deity or humanity they deny, their willful rejection makes them fully accountable for their actions. In the end, they have every reason to fear God as they face Him in judgment.

As for us, we are convinced that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the Cross to give us a shot at redemption. He is the only way to heaven and God ratified this truth by raising Him from the dead.
