"Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him."
Malachi 3:18
The Book of Malachi was written about 400 years before Christ. The people of Israel, including the Levites and priests, have compromised their ministries. They treated the sacrifices with contempt and did not take God seriously. Some of them even abandoned their Temple duties and found employment elsewhere. Also, the men have become unfaithful to their wives and wondered why God would refuse their sacrifices. The people even complained that God blessed the evildoers, and concluded that serving God was pointless.
But behind that dark background is another group of people who genuinely feared the Lord and honored His name. Just as God listened to the complainers' insolent blasphemies, so He paid attention to the conversations of the faithful worshipers.
God promised that a day is coming when the rebellious will finally realize their wrongs, and the faithful ones, whose names are written in the book of remembrance, will receive honor and praise from the Lord. On that day, the Lord will show them compassion and claim them as His own. On the other hand, the unfaithful will experience the fiery wrath of the Almighty. This is the difference between those who serve God and those who don't.
It’s quite easy to be discouraged when we see church members going astray and acting rebelliously. Sometimes, we feel unappreciated, while the ones who are doing evil things get attention. But we shouldn’t forget that there are people who remain faithful to God and continue to serve Him silently.
When the Lord returns, He will reveal who the faithful are and reward them for their loyalty. So, I urge you to remain dedicated to serving the Lord and making Him your only motivation to do what you do. Be the distinction. God will eventually acknowledge you and bless you in ways you can't even imagine.
