“Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,”

Psalm 105:5

Every time the calendar flips from one year to the next, we are given a new opportunity to do better than we did last year. In a way, it reminds us that the old has gone, and the new has come. But as a follower of Christ, how should you face the New Year and brave the challenges it presents?

Be thankful for God’s goodness.

Thankfulness is at the heart of the Christian message. For starters, we are saved by God’s grace, outside of our good works. There’s no better time to remember how good God has been than the start of the year. As we look back, we can see how God intervened and delivered us in many ways, including sin, shame, and Satan’s grip. From a practical standpoint, God rescued some of us from accidents, and possibly, even death.

In today’s verse, the Psalmist entreats the descendants of Abraham to give thanks to God, sing praises to Him, glory in His name, seek Him, and remember His wondrous works. Simply put, those who receive God’s blessings are commanded to give God the praise, glory, and witness due Him.

God is good—and that’s not a cliché. He really is good. He is faithful even when we aren’t. That’s why He deserves our worship. So, don’t let yourself be caught in the uncertainty of the moment or fear of the future. Remember what God has done and thank Him for it.

When we face trials of different kinds, it’s easy to let fear creep into our hearts and doubt God’s faithfulness. But problems don’t mean that God has turned His back on us; problems are just a part of life—whether you’re a Christian or not.

In those times, do not forget about the days when God took care of you and rescued you from harm. Those moments will help you stand firm and continue trusting Him.

Pursue the Savior today!
